Viruses can be more than simple annoying pop ups that slow down your PC’s performance.
Some viruses appear as legitimate Anti-Virus programs and will tell you that malware has been detected on your computer. These programs are most often pop up ads in disguise. Usually, if you click anywhere on the ad, it will initialize a download of multiple viruses to your system, infecting existing files and firmly installing itself, making it difficult to simply uninstall.
Once installed, the mock Anti-Virus program pretends to scan your computer and informs you that it has detected viruses and offers you the option to purchase the full version of the so-called Anti-Virus software so that it may remove the malicious files for you.
If you are not sure whether a program is legitimate or not, do not provide any payment information! Make sure to check on the background of the program that has appeared on your computer before providing it with your personal information.
